This morning on BBC breakfast there was an article on the call by Lord Layard for the implementation of a cabinet level minister for mental health. As Lord Layard said the physically ill get treatment as soon as but mentally ill only 25% get treatment and treatment not as widely available. It was also brought up about the lack of funding for mental health. It was said that over 50% of illnesses under 65s is mental health related but only 15% of the governments funding is given to mental health. This is despite1 in 3 families have someone with mental health problems. Although there has been a new scheme being rolled out called Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT).
